Ethyl acetate (ethyl ester of acetic acid) CH3-COO-CH2-CH3 is a colourless volatile liquid with a pleasant fruity smell.
Ethyl acetate is widely used as a solvent because of its low cost and
low toxicity and acceptable odor. In particular, as
the solvent of cellulose nitrate, cellulose acetate, fats, waxes, for
cleaning of printed circuit boards, in a mixture with the alcohol - solvent in the production of
faux leather.
Ethyl acetate has found application in the industrial production of nitrocellulose enamels and varnishes.
