Methylene chloride (dichloro methane,methylene chloride) is used :
• as a solvent in various industrial chemical processes,
• as a defatting agent and component compositions for flushing paints, for processing photos and films,
• as the extractant in the food industry (to remove caffeine from coffee, to obtain extracts of hops and other ingredients),
• as a blowing agent in polyurethane foams, etc.
Also used in chromatography.
