Magnesium oxide (magnesia, magnesium oxide)is a small white light powder. Practically insoluble in water, but easily absorbs, soluble in dilute hydrochloric acid. The basic form of the mineral periclase.

Applications:
In industry it is used for production of refractories, cements, cleaning oil as a filler in the manufacture of rubber. Ultra-light magnesium oxide is applied as a very fine abrasive for cleaning surfaces, in particular in the electronics industry.
In medicine is used with high acidity of gastric juice, as it is caused by excessive content of hydrochloric acid. Magnesia also take in case of accidental ingestion of acids.
The food industry is registered as a dietary Supplement, E530, prevent caking and clumping.
In gymnastics, coated on the palm of the athlete, the powder protects it from danger to break from shooting.
An absolute reflector - a substance with a reflection coefficient equal to unity in a wide spectral band. Can be used as the standard white color.
