Formalin technical
Formalin (or odometery solution formaldehyde) is a sharply smelling colorless transparent liquid. When the storage, the formation of a white precipitate, soluble at a temperature not more than 40 °C.
Chemical the formula of formalin: СН2О
Technical formalin is a flammable liquid, its vapor contact with air and oxygen can form explosive mixtures. Formalin technical has a flashpoint of 85 to 64°C depending on the content of methanol from 0.5 to 10.1%, respectively.
Formalin used for:
- synthetic rubber and resins,
- surface-active substances
- formals,
- polyatomic alcohols
- other methylene derivatives.
Formalin used in such industries:
· in textile for increasing the resilience of products to creasing and shrinkage;
· in the leather – for leather tanning;
· in the paper – to improve the strength and quality of paper;
· in rural agriculture – for treatment of root crops and seed disinfection livestock premises and soil;
· in medicine also for disinfection. The formalin prevents decay and promotes prolonged storage, therefore, used for embalming organic substances, organs, organisms.
