Calcium stearate

Calcium stearate (food additive E470, calcium stearinovokisly) is a chemical compound of calcium and stearic acid

Formula Ca(C17H35COO)2, colorless (white) stuff. The density of 1035 kg/m3. Not soluble in water. Soluble in benzene, toluene, ethanol and other organic solvents. Non-toxic. Melting point in the range of 130-150 °C. Shows synergies with lead stabilizers. Is a heat stabilizer PVC. Allowed to stabilize the packaging film of PVC.

Calcium stearate is used as plasticizer, stabilizer, and surface-active substance. This salt is used as an effective stabilizer in the manufacture of PVC, polystyrene, polyolefins, polyamide. Used in the production of building materials based on cement mixes and limestone, cable and pipe of thermoplastics. Is antiaglomerate an additive for synthetic rubbers.

Is used as an additional desiccant in the production of paint products. Calcium stearate is used as stabilizer for plastics. It is also used as a plasticizer in plastic industry and also in cosmetics. Acts as a catalyst in chemical synthesis. Used in pharmaceutical and cosmetic industry for tabletting of medicinal substances and vitamins, as agent of gelation. Due to the fact that calcium stearate is non-toxic substance, it is used in the manufacture of articles intended to contact with food. In the textile and construction industry it is widely is used as an effective hydrophobic additives.
