Aluminium sulphate

Aluminum sulfate — a complex inorganic compound, a salt of aluminium and sulphuric acid with the chemical formulaAl2(SO4)3. Looks like colourless crystals, can form crystalline hydrates with different water content. Used in water treatment, textile dyeing, leather tanning, as a reagent in photography, to obtain alum.

Colorless crystals, plates or powder. It has orthorhombic lattice. The density of 2,710 g/cm3, specific heat at constant pressure — 259,6 j/(mol K). Poorly soluble in alcohols, soluble in water, hygroscopic. Stable at normal temperatures.

Chemical formula: Al2(SO4)3

Forms the crystalline with the formula Al2(SO4)3·18H2O, looks like colourless crystals, melting at 86,5 °C (with decomposition) and with a density of 1,690 g/cm3. During long-term storage 18-water crystalline may partially erode to the content of 14-14,5 molecules water.

Aluminium sulphate decomposes at temperatures above 580 °C γ-modification aluminum oxide and sulfuric anhydride.
