Trichloroethylene

Trichloroethylene (Trichoraetylenum) is a organochlorine compound, colorless, transparent, mobile, fly liquid with a smell reminiscent of the smell chloroform, and a sweet, burning taste. The density of 1,462—1,466. Fully distils at a temperature of 86-88 °C. Practically insoluble in water; miscible with organic solvents, not flammable and not explosive. Under the action of light and air, decomposes to form phosgene and halogenated acids and takes on a pink coloration. To stabilize trichloroethylene is added 0.01% of thymol or 0.001% of phenol.

Trichloroethylene is widely used in such areas as:

the branch of medicine where TAE is applicable in as a powerful anesthesia in surgery;

typography, printing industry;

as a solvent in various industrial areas. Degreases well, which is particularly important for the production of coolants, paints, acids of several types and other things;

the personal services sector, in particular chemical the cleaning and treatment of fabrics;

food industry involves the use of TAE for the preservation of eggs;

serves as the basis for the destruction of parasites and pests.

Trichloroethylene it is very dangerous to all organisms of the aquatic environment and is guaranteed to lead to a deterioration of the ecosystem.

Wide the use of trichloroethylene due to its low cost. This drug helps in the production of various refrigerants. It is found in formulations of herbicides. Also it is used to produce various acids. It is used to dissolve bituminous resins, synthetic dyes.

In severe and engineering industry properties trichloethylene used for remove grease from metals. It effectively degreases the surface of parts that allows to obtain materials with a high degree of purification. C2HCl3, in the which includes stabilizers, capable of cleaning surface: copper, steel, tin, silver, Nickel.

But it is necessary to note that this substance can not be used for degreasing of aluminium and magnesium, and alloys with their participation.

For degreasing metals manufacturers use submersible and jet method. When immersion method details sent to a couple of trichloroethylene, where it is the process of dissolving fat. The inkjet method, the metal parts exposed some "flushing" of the trichloroethylene. This method is considered more effective, as it can be used more efficiently to clean the materials.

In addition application in medicine as anaesthetic, trichloroethylene also used in industry and in the printing trade as an industrial solvent.

Trichloroethylene do not store in the light as in the presence of oxygen it decomposes the formation of toxic (and flammable) product dichloroacetylene, which, in turn, decomposes to phosgene, carbon monoxide and hydrogen chloride. Catalyze the reaction of the vapors of iodine, a mineral acid and soda lime (applies to closed and semi-closed systems of anesthesia).

In the presence of catalysts and at high temperatures may form other organochlorine compounds, often the limiting structure. In the presence of chloride aluminum trichloroethylene interacts with the hydrogen chloride, thus there is condensation, polymerization and tarring.

Trichloroethylene dissolves the paraffins and waxes. Insoluble in most alcohols and ketones.

Trichloroethylene obtained by catalytic high-temperature chlorination of raw materials, containing the mixture of organochlorine compounds, the number of chlorethanol and chlorethylene followed distillation separation of the products. So in the synthesis of trichlorethylene from waste production of vinyl chloride, dichloroethane process is carried out in a fluidized bed silica gel catalyst at a temperature from 400°C to 450°C; oxidative chlorination of chlorethanol or chloroethylene as a catalyst used the chlorides of copper and potassium on silikagelya medium, and the temperature process is reduced to 350° - 400°C.

Trichloroethylene is a powerful narcotic. Drug effect comes quickly and ends after 2-3 minutes after you stop the flow of trichloroethylene. From other drugs is different because even low concentrations in the first stage of anesthesia causes strong analgesia.

Most shows the use of trichloroethylene for short-term anesthesia, analgesia for small surgical operations and painful manipulations, for anesthesia for childbirth. For these purposes use trichloroethylene in a concentration of 0,3—0,6 about. % (usually 0.5. %) mixed with oxygen or air either a mixture containing 50% nitrous oxide and 50 % oxygen. Inhalation may be made with the help of special devices for autoanalgesia, and the mask patients (or mothers) themselves hold on the face: when the pain starts inhale this mixture.

Trichloroethylene can also be used to relieve the pain syndrome in trigeminal neuralgia nerve, renal colic and diseases, accompanied by severe pain. In dental practice the drug is used for pain relief in the extraction teeth, operations on the jaw and others.

When proper dosing of trichloroethylene well tolerated, does not cause irritation respiratory tract, increased salivation and increased bronchial secretions glands. No significant changes of blood circulation (can be slight increase in blood pressure and increased heart rate), has no adverse effect on the contractile.
