Sulfamic acid

Sulfamic acid (Sulphamic acid, sulfuric acid monoamide, amigorena acid) acid, the formula of which NH2SO2OH (also NH2SO3H). Derivative of this acid call sulfamate.

Sulfamic the acid forms colourless crystals of the rhombic crystal system, unit cell parameters a = 0,8036 nm, b = 0,8025 nm, c = 0,9236 nm, Z = 8. The crystals consist of zwitterionic ions.

In the crystalline state sulphamic acid forms a zwitterionic-ion . When heated to 260 °C decomposes into SO2, SO3, N2 and H2O. At room temperature, sulfamic acid almost not subject to hydrolysis at elevated temperatures is hydrolyzed to form NH4HSO4 (in acidic medium the rate of hydrolysis is increased). With metals, their oxides, hydroxides and carbonates sulfamic acid forms salts NH2SO3M (sulfamate), with thionyl chloride — sulfhemoglobin NH2SO2Cl.

Sulfamic acid used for cleaning of industrial machines and equipment (included in composition antiscales), for the introduction of SO3H groups and NHSO3H in organic connections as a standard substance in acidimetry to determine nitrite ions. Sulfamate ammonium NH2SO3NH4 is used to make flame retardant properties to textile materials, sulfamate Ni (NH2SO3)2Ni — as a component electrolytes for Nickel plating, N-chlorinated sulfamic acid in as a disinfectant. Salt cyclohexylsulfamic acid C6H11NHSO3M (cyclamate, for example where M is Na or K) was made in the US as low-calorie sugar substitutes, however, due to the carcinogenic properties of their production is prohibited.

Sulfamic acid causes burns of the skin and mucous membranes. LD50 1600 mg/kg (rats), 3100 mg/kg (mouse). Has much less corrosion active than hydrochloric and sulphuric acids.

Application

In chemical industry: raw material for organic synthesis; for the production of herbicides; detergents, cleaning products, disinfectants; antiscales. In the synthesis of aromatic diazocompounds;

for remove excess nitrous acid. For the synthesis of organic compounds groups SO3H and NHSO3H;

In analytical chemistry for the detection of nitrite ions; as fiksanala for definitions of acids and bases;

In oil industry: for cleaning, repair, recover and grow the productivity of wells;

For dissolving hard-to-remove salt deposits and corrosion products equipment, pipelines, tanks, power plants, factories, food industry, the pulp and paper industry, public utility, marine installations heat exchange equipment for various purposes;

For cleaning utensils and supplies for food service establishments; to disinfect equipment in the food industry;

In textile industry — for making a tissue with enhanced fire resistance;

— Included in the composition of the electrolyte, means for Nickel plating, is used for the etching food tin.

Sulfamic acid is Packed in cardboard winding drums with a capacity from 50 to 100 dm3 with plastic bag inside, special soft containers single use, double plastic bags.

Sulfamic acid transporterowych all modes of transport; by rail to universal containers carriages and in covered wagons with loading and unloading sidings of the consignor (consignee).

Sulfamic acid is stored in closed containers in covered warehouses.
