Reg. CAS number: 2809-21-4

Hydroxyethylenediphosphonic acid (HEDP, heteronomy acid, 1-hydroxyethane-1,1-difosfonovoy acid) organic compound with the formula CH3C(OH)(H2PO3)2. Forms complexes with uranium, thorium, iron, and rare earth elements. Used as the complexing agent in chemistry and many branches of industry.

Temperature melting point is 198-200 °C. it is Soluble in water, alcohol, dimethylformamide.

Forms stable complexes with uranium (VI), thorium (IV), iron (III) and rare-earth elements.

Get in the interaction:

chloride, phosphorus (III) with acetic acid;

phosphoric acid c acetic anhydride.

With the point of view of biology and agricultural chemistry OEDPK has the most advantages among all available kompleksonatov:

- its structure is most similar to natural complexants on the basis of of the polyphosphates having the primary fragment -R-O-R- , and OEDPK has a fragment -R-S-R-;

- under the action of light decomposes OEDPK on the leaves of plants to the acetates and phosphates. The last are used as food;

- OEDPK is also a growth regulator, has antimicrobial and antiviral properties;

- complexonate based on OEDPK prevent the formation of low-soluble salts (calcium carbonates) in pipelines nutritional systems, greenhouses and contribute to the reduction of salinization of rubble.

HEDP used in:

production and engineering — as means of preventing salt deposits in the tubes;

perfume stabilizer;

of complexometry — titrant;

analytical chemistry — masking agent;

colour photography as an inhibitor the salt formation in a developing solution and a preservative for hydroxylamine. Is an effective substitute for Trilon B in the processing of non-ferrous papers (e.g. RA-4), as Trilon B interacts with hydroxylamine, decomposing it with the release of nitrogen and ammonia, resulting in the loss of hydroxylamine-preserving properties and rapid deterioration of the developing solution;
