Potassium carbonate
Potassium carbonate, potassium carbonate, architect. potash, K2CO3 — average salt potassium and coal acid. It is a white crystalline substance, soluble in water. Low-toxicity, belongs to III class of hazard.
The melting point is 891 °C. Soluble in water, hygroscopic. Forms a hydrate with 1.5 * H2O during crystallization of aqueous solutions and anhydrous storage form in the air.
Carbonate potassium is used:
· for manufacture of liquid soap;
· for production of pigments;
· crystal optical or refractory glass;
· dyeing;
· growing agricultural crops (potassium is a good fertilizer for plants);
· in photography as an element of developers;
· in as additive in mortar and concrete for reduce the temperature of freezing (gives white spots, therefore, are developed special antifreeze additives, not giving divorce);
· for the production of other potassium compounds;
· as the absorber of hydrogen sulfide while cleaning gases;
· dewatering agent;
· was as a dietary Supplement, E501.
