Urea
- is a white or colorless crystals odourless, easy soluble in polar solvents: water, alcohol, liquid ammonia, sulfurous anhydride. Insoluble in non-polar solvents (alkanes, chloroform).
The density of 1.32 g/cm3. Melting point - 132,7° C, the decomposition temperature is 150-160° C.
Urea is a very reactive compound; forms complex compounds with many substances, for example with hydrogen peroxide, with normal saturated hydrocarbons; the latter reaction is used in industry for dewaxing oils.
Chemical formula: (NH2)2CO
In industry urea is synthesized by the reaction of Bazarov from ammonia and carbon dioxide. For this reason, the production of urea is combined with ammonia production.
The use of carbamide (urea).
Urea is a large product that is used primarily as a nitrogen fertilizer (nitrogen content of 46%, is the main source of highly concentrated nitrogen) and is available in resistant to caking as in granular form. Smooth, dense granules to the exact distribution. Easy to use, evenly distributed and network sustainable harvest.
Derivatives of urea - effective herbicides.
Urea can be used in livestock as a feed additive.
Another important industrial application of urea is the synthesis of urea-aldehyde (primarily urea-formaldehyde) resins are widely used as adhesives in the production of wood-fiber plates (fiberboard) and furniture production.
In the oil industry it is used for dewaxing oils and motor fuels, emitting soft paraffin-raw material for production of protein-vitamin preparations, fatty alcohols and acids, detergents, etc.
Urea is also used for cleaning of flue gases of thermal power plants, boilers, incinerators, engines, internal combustion, etc., from oxides of nitrogen.
In medicine pure urea is used as dehydrating agent (anticancer drugs) to prevent and reduce swelling of the brain, as well as for production of hypnotics (veronal, luminal, bromural).
Urea is registered as a food additive E927b. Is used, in particular, in the manufacture of chewing gum.
Depending on the destination urea produce two grades: a - for industry; B - for crop production.
