The investigation into the problem is expected to be \ncompleted by the end of next week, followed by adjustments to the \ntruck\u2019s battery production process that \u201ccould take a few weeks.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A\n Ford spokeswoman declined to disclose additional details of the issue, \nwhich led to the production halt as well as a stop-shipment on \nalready-produced trucks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The battery supplier for the truck is \nSouth Korea-based SK On, a spinoff of SK Innovation, which the Detroit \nautomaker announced a joint venture with last year to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2021\/09\/27\/ford-battery-supplier-to-spend-11point4-billion-to-build-new-us-plants.html\">establish battery production facilities<\/a> in the U.S.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ford\n said it is not aware of any incidents of this issue in vehicles that \nhave already been delivered to customers and dealers. Retailers can \ncontinue to sell vehicles that they may already have in stock.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The\n F-150 Lightning is being closely watched by investors, as it\u2019s the \nfirst mainstream electric pickup truck on the market and a major launch \nfor Ford.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The battery issue adds to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2023\/02\/02\/ford-f-earnings-q4-2022.html\">ongoing \u201cexecution issues\u201d<\/a> detailed to investors earlier this month by Ford CEO Jim Farley that crippled the automaker\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/shareholder.ford.com\/Investors\/events\/event-details\/2023\/Ford-Motor-Company-Fourth-Quarter-2022-Earnings-2023-sIvLsdm2Vr\/default.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">fourth-quarter earnings<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Farley\n reiterated Wednesday that the automaker needs to do better \noperationally to be more profitable and bring margins in-line with \ncompetitors. He said Ford is less profitable than its legacy peers \nbecause it has a cost disadvantage of between $7 billion and $8 billion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe\n can cut the cost, we can cut people, we can do that really quickly and \nwe\u2019ll do whatever we need to,\u201d Farley said during a Wolfe Research \nconference. \u201cThe reality is if you don\u2019t change the efficiency of \nengineering, supply chain and manufacturing, the basic work statement, \nthe way people work, the efficiency of that it\u2019ll grow back<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Farley later added, \u201cThis is really about redesigning what we do in the 120-year-old part of the company.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Ford said Wednesday it believes engineers have found the root cause of the issue.
